In January of 2004, I opened Wasatch Music Coaching Academy, a long time dream and left financial services behind. WMCA has become a strong force and influence in the area, with currently nearly 200 students and currently 11 student ensembles. Our students perform up and down the Wasatch Front, and which annually include the Utah Arts Festival, the 9th and 9th Festival, Avenues Fair, various charities and fundraisers, and private events. One of our greatest achievements was recently performing 25 tunes from the Broadway Musical, Hamilton, including an original narration which filled in between tunes. This show was comprised of 17 of our top students…7 instrumentalists and 10 vocalists. It was a standing room only crowd at the Post Theater this past April. We have currently been asked to perform it again in several venues over the next few months.Artists performed with over the years include Ira Sullivan, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Chubby Checker, Platters, Tokens, Coasters, Del Shannon, Ronnie Spector, Joan Rivers, Donny Most, Buddy Hacket, Hal Linden, the Marin Symphony, and the Utah Symphony. If you are ready to have fun playing music right away, please contact me to schedule your first free lesson.I have a Bachelors Degree in Music Performance with an Emphasis on Guitar from Utah State University where I was extremely fortunate to study under Prof. Mike Christiansen. I have taught, performed, composed, and recorded music for over 30 years.
I believe in the importance of combining the needs and desires of the student with what I feel is the most effective and correct way to approach a musical instrument, while administering my methods at a level based on how I am able to determine his/her general ability. Every student is different, and though I always follow a general flow of what I eventually hope to accomplish, I customize materials, communication and teaching methods to fit the student personally, with his/her needs. Music is so personal, and with this there is always a high level of subjectivity in evaluation and what is considered progress. My goal is to become their mentor...as well as a good friend. Above all, it must ALWAYS be fun...even when it becomes hard work!!!
