Saul Lubaroff has been playing music since he was eight yrs old. Already adept at piano, viola and clarinet by age eleven, he took up the saxophone in junior high. He studied jazz with Dan Yoder at the University of Iowa during high school, and played in college jazz bands before he was sixteen years old. Saul is a classically trained saxophonist, but his real love is jazz. In 1997, after seven years as a key member of the R&B group Shade of Blue performing over 100 shows a year at venues around the states of Iowa and Illinois, Saul formed the Saul Lubaroff Quartet. The quartet has played at the Iowa City Jazz Festival three times, Jazz under the Stars, and in October of 2008, Saul and his quintet performed at the Englert Theater. Saul has recorded 2 CDs that are available for purchase on Amazon.com, CDbaby.com, iTunes, and hundreds of other digital music providers on the Internet. Saul is currently a freelance woodwind artist, having recently performed with Theater Cedar Rapids Orchestra and a recent concert with the popular Middle Eastern music group Salaam. He is member of the popular funk bands GrooveShip, The Fez-a Tribute to Steely Dan, Big Funk Guarantee and also anchors the horn section in WeFunk, a 14 piece band dedicated to the music of George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadelic. Saul is also a P. Mauriat sponsored artist and an adjunct instructor in the Iowa City Schools When he has free time he loves to be with his 2 sons Zane, a freshman at UNI and Will, a junior at City High School.
